Clinton H. Dawley, Conductor
Clinton Dawley, a co-founder of the Gold
Coast
Wind Ensemble, has his roots in Ventura County. After Graduating from Buena
High School and attending Ventura College, he earned his Bachelor of Music
Degree in Performance from California State University, Long Beach. He then
taught public school music in Coolidge, Arizona. Returning to California, he
taught music in both Simi Valley and Port Hueneme. Since 1991, he has been
the conductor of the Gold Coast Wind Ensemble.
Michael Doty, Associate Conductor
Co-founder and Associate Conductor of GCWE, Michael Doty received his music
training from the University of
California at Santa Barbara, earning a BA in 1969 and a Teaching Certificate
in 1970. He played trombone in the prestigious Santa Barbara Symphony during
this time. His first teaching positions were in the
state of New South Wales, Australia. He also taught at high schools in
Atascadero and Whittier before settling in at Hueneme High School in Oxnard,
California, in 1980, where his groups have won numerous awards including
Superior Ratings at festivals. In May 1999, this group was one of only a
dozen in the Southern California area to earn a rare Unanimous Superior
Rating at a Regional Festival. In 2004 and 2005, he conducted the Ventura
County Honor Band in a concert shared with the New West Symphony. 2007
saw him conducting the Ventura County Middle School Honor Band. In
2006, he was selected as the winner of the Outstanding Band Director of the
Year by the New West Symphony. He has served the California Band Directors
Association as its Convention Host, Vice President, and President. Mr. Doty
also is in increasing demand as both a clinician and adjudicator. In 1997,
he earned a Master of Music (With Distinction) in conducting from California
State University, Northridge. He retired from Hueneme HS in June 2007,
and has briefly held the position of interim director of bands at Buena HS
(Ventura, CA), Santa Susana HS, and Simi Valley HS (both in Simi Valley).
